The pineapple is not only one of the most delicious and yummiest fruits around (well its certainly a personal favourite of mine and I'm quite partial to a Piña Colada) it is as equally scrumptious when styled in interiors! The pineapple has been a popular trend across the spectrum of interiors, fashion and jewellery for a quite a while now and doesn't appear to be going anywhere. In fact, the history of the pineapple as a display item dates way back to the 17th century. It was first "discovered" by Christopher Columbus and his crew in 1493 on his second trip to the Caribbean before it was brought back to Europe. By the 1600's the pineapple was still such rare commodity it was seen as a gift fit for a King and as a welcoming gesture to guests in early America when displayed as a centre-piece at dinner parties or outside the homes of those who were affluent enough to buy one (or rent one for the night). The pineapple is now a symbol for hospitality and has gone on to be a popular symbol in interiors through a variety of design formats and interior design styles.
This lil spikey guy adds a fun bit of personality to any space and an interesting shape to any product design. In metallic hues , the pineapple can comfortably sit side-by-side against other stylish opulent ornaments or lighting fixtures and not look out of place. Equally, it is as beautiful when in colour and styled on a sideboard or shelf with some books, picture frames and flowers.
The pineapple in print form on art, cushions or wallpaper also brings a pop of colour and geometrics to the party and its shape lends itself to be a multi-functional accessory for storing jewellery, candles or a multitude of items and is always popular as a stylish and quirky lamp base. Whats not to love?
Below I've selected some of my favourite pineapple products currently available online that I've got a bit of a pineapple crush on.
